We're a co-operative of around 45 walnut grower members, mostly in Canterbury, with some based in Otago and Nelson. We've been nurturing our trees since the '70s, to grow exquisite walnuts for you. Our philosophy is to grow our trees using as little intervention as possible. Some of our orchards are certified organic and we all limit the use of sprays, preferring to prune, feed and water - then let them grow. All our nuts are processed at our Tricketts Road facilities in West Melton - so what better name for our brand!
As with most food, fresh is best for walnut quality. The walnut shell is nature’s airtight container and protects the kernels from air and light. Unlike imported walnuts which are cracked months before they reach New Zealand, Trickett’s Grove walnuts are grown locally and cracked just in time for delivery - maximising their nutrients and delicious fresh nutty taste.
Walnuts are so versatile – so go on, grab a handful as a snack or as part of your next meal and you’ll be on your way to the 30g of nuts per day as recommended by nutrition experts.
The walnuts are developing within the hull. Our trees need plenty of water now to produce lovely large nuts. Pickling walnuts are collected just after Christmas.
Autumn
It's harvest time! From March to May we're collecting walnuts as they fall to the ground - sometimes with a little encouragement!
Winter
Our trees are dormant but we are not! While the trees are storing energy for next year's crop, we are busy pruning to give them as much light as possible.
SPRING
New growth is starting, and the tiny walnut blossoms produce pollen that is spread from one tree to the next on the wind.

MEET SOME OF OUR GROWERS
Jo and Andrew Horsbrugh
Jo and Andrew Horsbrugh have planted 35,000 trees on Tunlaw Farm near Rolleston. Getting started in 1998, their dream was to grow great tasting, high quality walnuts, and to create a park-like environment that brings joy to all.
Delicious walnuts exactly like the ones I had as a kid from the family tree in the backyard
Justin
I always add a cup of Trickett's Grove Walnuts chopped into my 'must have in the fridge' fruit slice which includes homemade apple puree and topped with blackcurrants from my garden. I'm addicted.
Henrietta
